philosophy
Nourish & Thrive is built first on the foundation that food can be full of JOY. Secondly, vegetables and fruits reign supreme! Cancer prevention methods and recipes found here are an amalgam of reputable nutritional and lifestyle doctrines including, but not limited to, recommendations by the American Cancer Society , National Cancer Institute, and the American Institute of Cancer Research.
Recipes at Nourish & Thrive are designed with "common sense" nutrition principles, meaning sticking with a majority-plant-based framework. Recipes are often dairy-free, gluten-free, red meat-free, low in added sugar and always defaulting to organic ingredients when available. This is designed not with the mindset that certain foods are good vs. evil, but that we can take a meal as an opportunity to minimize pesticide and synthetic chemical exposure while maximizing the minerals, antioxidants, natural fibers, and overall cancer-fighting properties that are most prevalent in vegetables, fruits, beans, legumes, nuts, and whole grains.
I hope that these meals will be enjoyed among family and friends and fill your home with tastes of comfort and warm memories.

This collection of recipes has been adapted from a mix of family recipe cards, cookbooks, and online resources, reexamined through the lens of someone affected by cancer. Whenever a recipe has been inspired by or adapted from an outside source, we will be sure to denote it and link to the site or book it was published.
our Promise
- Delicious Food: Meals can't help make us feel better if there isn't JOY first, so every recipe is personally tested and cooked in a home kitchen. If it isn't happy and delicious, you won't find it here.
- Recipes Catered Directly to Cancer Patients: There's a unique set of obstacles facing patients and families navigating cancer. We're dedicated to helping alleviate some of that load and focusing on recipes and tips that might help stimulate hunger, nourish an upset stomach, or soothe a tender mouth while being cognizant of increasing vegetables and fruits and mindful of the time and effort it takes to prepare a healthful meal.
- Simple Instructions and Realistic Preparation Times: Cooking should be easy and without difficult-to-find ingredients and fancy (read: expensive) equipment. Preparation times may seem a bit higher here, that's because they are indicators of a home cook making a meal from start to finish including the preparation time (like washing vegetables!).
- Connection to Sources: There's a lot of information around health online these days, so each recipe comes with gathered data around ingredients. When possible, we'll always link directly to these studies, journal publications, or articles so you can see for yourself where the information is pulled from to review it with your medical team and/or family.
- Ad-Free: Life is noisy enough.
